V is for Victory...

V is for Victory

The online dictionary’s definition for victory is:

1:  the overcoming of an enemy or antagonist

2:  achievement of mastery or success in a struggle or endeavor against odds or difficulties

The Webster’s desk dictionary also includes:  conquest or triumph.

If we have victory in Jesus, we have overcome our enemy, which would be Satan or the devil. That can definitely be a struggle but what a conquest or triumph it is!

I love the old song, Victory in Jesus.  Here are the three verses, then the chorus.

I heard an old, old story
How a Savior came from glory
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me
I heard about His groaning
Of His precious blood's atoning
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory

I heard about His healing
Of His cleansing pow'r revealing
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see
And then I cried, "Dear Jesus
Come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and brought
To me the victory

I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea
About the angels singing
And the old redemption story
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory

CHORUS:
O victory in Jesus
My Savior, forever
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him
He plunged me to victory
Beneath the cleansing flood

Nothing like the old gospel hymn, it pretty well says it all!  We can sing Victory in Jesus now, but it is nothing compared to singing in Heaven.  That will be true victory!

‘Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by the strength.’   Psalm 54:1

‘The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation.’   Psalm 118:14

‘Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.  Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.’   Psalm 60:11-12

‘Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.’   Psalm 119:133

‘Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’   Romans 8:37-39

‘For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.   1 John 5:4

We can have victory in Jesus Christ, He never said it would be easy, but He did say He would be by our side.  All we need to do is Believe in Him and ask Him to forgive us of our sins, and sin no more.  Serving Christ is not a burden to those who love Him, and when our load becomes heavy, we can trust Him to help us.

until next time…nel

  1. I love that song too. We sing it in our church quite often.
