It's The Hodgepodge...

1. Did you watch The Oscars? How many of the Best Picture nominees have you seen? (American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, Selma, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, and Whiplash)

Do you think actors should use their acceptance speeches as an opportunity to promote their political and/or social agenda? Does that sort of speech make you more or less inclined to change the channel?
I did not watch the Oscars and actually have not seen any of the movies, however American Sniper is on my list of want to's. I think acceptance speeches should be just that acceptance speeches. It seems no matter what you watch it is political anymore of some form or another.

2. Speaking of the movies... are you comfortable going to a movie alone? How about dinner in a restaurant (not fast food, but an actual restaurant)? The second half of this question was posed by Carrie who blogs over at It's Not Easy Being Queen. Thanks Carrie!
When I first read this question I thought yes I would be comfortable but the more I think about it I just don't know. Times have changed so much.  If it was during the daytime yes I probably could but not after dark.

3. What's the last home repair or home improvement project you had to pay someone to complete? In hindsight was this a project you could have done yourself?
The last one we paid for was plumbing. A new kitchen faucet and a commode to be replaced. No it is good to have a plumber!

4. Have you ever had Indian food? Like it or no? If you're a fan, what's your favorite dish? Have you ever prepared this yourself at home? Is there an Indian restaurant in your current hometown?
I have never tried anything but I would like to try it.  I did have Indian Fry Bread but I didn't figure that would count. lol.   I have never fixed anything and I am not sure if we have any or not.

5. A song that reminds you of your parents?
The only thing that comes to mind is Precious Memories. And I do have a lot of precious memories!

6. The 26th of February is National Tell A Fairy Tale Day. What's your favorite, or one of your favorite, fairy tales? Do you have any childhood memories associated with a particular fairy tale?
Little Red Riding Hood was one of my favorites as a child.  Really don't have any memories about it.

7. What's a problem you solved yesterday?
I noticed the birds were not staying at the feeders for very long at a time.  I went out and checked them, the night before we had gotten freezing rain and there was ice in the openings.  I cleared out all around and it is working fine again, in fact it is almost empty.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I am not sure about all of you but I have not heard of a Tupperware party or consultant in forever.  Well guess what my daughter is selling Tupperware now.  With all of our technology of course you can now order online if you do not want to deal with having a party.  Or you can do an online party or the in home parties.  She has a website that you can order from and it can be shipped directly to you.  They have a lot of their old stuff but also have a lot of new items.  It had been years since I had seen a book.  My mom was always the Tupperware Queen! I told Janice her grandma would be so proud!  I do have to mention one item - their can opener.  It is the best $25 I have ever spent.  I hate can openers that will not work.  I think they have change the ends on a lot of the cans and they just do not open good.  But this opener lays on top, and cuts around the outer edge, then it has a little hook to lift it off.  It works amazing! I am going to throw my electric one out...it was just a hit & miss anyways. lol.   But I highly recommend the can opener.   Her website is JaniceLusk.my.tupperware.com  or you can can click here.  Check it out there might be something you can't live without!  lol

Random Thoughts and Updates...

Finally finding a minute to sit down and post a little.  I had a wonderful Valentine's weekend.  I know that is over a week ago, but where has the time gone.
My sweet hubby surprised me on Thursday the 12th with a bouquet of red roses.  They were beautiful.

Then on Friday evening my daughter and her kids came in for the weekend.  We had such a good time.  We ate supper then just chilled.  I had a bowl of plain M&M's on my coffee table and Silas James thought that was something because he could reach them.  We enjoyed the night just relaxing.

Saturday morning I fixed breakfast then the kids and I headed off to town. Eden Jade had never seen a big mall so we thought she needed to experience that.  With cold weather there is not a lot that you can do, needless to say the mall was wall to wall people.  Stan and I decided we needed to eat at Lambert's.  Stan and Rocky met us at the mall and we rode down together to Ozark.  It is only about 15 minutes from Springfield. Have any of you ever been to Lambert's?  There are only three that I know of Ozark & Sikeston MO and Foley, AL.  The home of the thrown rolls. Click here for their website.  We got there early right around 3:30 and we still had to wait 1 1/2 hours, but it was well worth it.  The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is great.  The kids had such a good time!
They watched for awhile but when they got a chance they enjoyed catching the rolls too.  Unfortunately I did not get any pics.

Silas James did not find anything he did not like.

He was watching them catching the rolls.  I did not get a picture of him with his hands in the air.
.
He sure did enjoy it when he got one tho!
I wish I could post the videos Janice took of Eden and Silas catching theirs, but they will not work. After eating a big meal we took a detour to Bass Pro Shop.  The kids enjoyed that.

Eden loves elevators, Cain not so much. But she did talk Bubba into riding it while at Bass Pro.
We ended the weekend attending church services. Eden Jade sang for our congregation.  She does a really good job.  Has a wonderful voice to be so young.

Then we took a few pictures, unfortunately the one with Stan in it did not turn out.

We ended the weekend with lunch at McDonald's.  Then they headed home to beat the weather coming in.  We had a wonderful weekend.  It was a very special Valentine's Day!  My grandkids are growing by leaps and bounds.  Cain Alan towers over me now and he is only in 8th grade.  Eden is growing up too, and Silas is so much fun.  He had such a good time just running through the house.  He is such a mess!  It sure was quiet after they left.
Thank you Jesus for a perfect weekend! And for safe travel for my kids!

A few days later we received these pictures from our great grandson, Ryan. Stan's grandson's little boy.  He is as cute as he can be and look at those beautiful blue eyes!

Nothing better than Grandchildren!

Hodgepodge 209...

1. When did you last have to interact, either by phone or in person, with someone in a government run agency? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the experience? (10 being fabulous and 1 being pass the Tylenol)

I don't remember the last time! PTL!  My BIL deals with the VA all the time and at times it is a definite 10.

2. The current governor of Wisconsin is considering a run for President next time around. Walker attended Marquette University, but never graduated. In terms ofany candidate running for the office of President (not asking here if you agree or disagree with Scott Walker's politics) would the lack of a college degree influence your vote or no? Would that be a factor in your support of any candidate running for public office, even a role less weighty than President?

I think the lack of a college degree would influence my vote. I am not saying that college degrees make the person the smartest tack in the box but it usually shows they have the ability to make wise decisions and be responsible.

3. When did you last visit a place or site named for George Washington or Abraham Lincoln, and what was that place or site?

I guess when we went to DC in 2008. Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.  Love the monuments in DC.

4. February 16th was President's Day in the US, but did you know it was also National Almond Day? I didn't think so : ) Do you like almonds? If so, what's a food/dish/recipe you enjoy that contains almonds?

I love Almonds, a good nut to munch on and they are good for you.  Actually I love them in all kinds of dishes, but love Green Beans Almondine, and there is a slaw dish that has ramen noodles and almonds.  It is very good!

5.The television program Saturday Night Live celebrated it's 40th anniversary this past weekend. Were/are you a fan of the show? If so what has been your favorite (or one of your favorite) skits, sayings, or characters that came out of the program?

I have never been a fan of Saturday Night Live.  Can actually say I don't remember ever watching it.
6. Anything purple within ten feet of you? What is it?

There is a purple candle sitting on my bookshelf.  It smells so good.  Fruit and Berry by Cobblestone Candles.

7. Back in December I asked you to submit a question for a future HP as part of a giveaway I was hosting. I grabbed this one from those entries, submitted by Zoanna who blogs over at Penchant for Pens. Thanks Zoanna!

She asks, "How often do you make your bed, and how do you like to make it-pull the covers all the way up over the pillows, tuck the covers in around the pillows, or place all the pillows on top of the covers?"

I make our bed every morning as soon as we are both up.  I like to pull the covers and duvet up over the pillows, then place the extra pillows with shams on top, then a decorative pillow in front of them.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I missed Hodgepodge last week but it was for a good reason.  I had to get my house ready for a 15 mo old.  You know put medicines up out of reach and my sewing needles and scissors.  A few breakables a little higher.  Did not want to spend the weekend with his momma getting on to him.  We had a terrific time, wish they could of stayed a little longer but glad they got gone before the snow and ice hit.  Made a lot of memories this weekend and a fun time was had by all.  I will try to do a post this week and share some pictures.  My kids are growing up on me!

Sledding to the Hodgepodge...

That almost sounds like a dance or a song.  It is that time again Yeah for the Hodgepodge!  You know the drill, now just join in the fun.

1.  Do you wear your heart on your sleeve, or keep your emotions tucked in tight?
It really depends on what the circumstances are.  Some things I will cry at the drop of a hat, if it is heart grabbing or heart touching.  But usually I can keep them in check, which that guy at DirectTv probably wouldn't agree with that.  I actually told him to back off or I was going to hang up and change my mind.  He wanted an answer right then before I talked to my hubby.  I let him know I did not think he was married...you don't make decisions like that without discussing it first.  lol  Sorry I will get off my soapbox now...did I answer the question?

2.  How did you meet your closest friend?
I consider my husband to be my closest friend.  We met on Yahoo playing games.  And then probably a year later we met in person.

3.  Pink lemonade, grilled salmon, cotton candy, pink grapefruit, a strawberry milkshake, or raspberry sorbet...of the pink foods listed, which one is your favorite? Least favorite? Which one have you most recently consumed?
Favorite I would say is pink lemonade, but grilled salmon is pretty tasty. Least would be pink grapefruit...not that I don't like it, it don't like me.  I think I tried salmon last summer.  I would like to try a raspberry sorbet, that sounds good. Oh you didn't ask that did you!

4.  When were you last 'tickled pink' over something? Explain
Answered prayer! You can read about it here.

5. Are you a fan of television talk shows? Daytime, nighttime, or both? What's your favorite?
I do on occasion watch at night. Glenn Beck on The Blaze has become a favorite.  And it impresses me that he does not mind talking about God or the Bible and they always have group prayer at the end of his show.

6. When was the last time you wanted to ask a question, but felt too foolish to do so?
Nothing comes to mind.  I am not shy and have always felt if you have a question the foolish one is the one you don't ask.

7.  My favorite breakfast right now is yogurt and a piece of toast.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
For a week now, I have been under the weather, started feeling better Monday morning.  I missed church 3 times last week, I was sick!  I have stomach issues sometimes and I think a flare up of IBS set in.  Was not a good week.  Finally today I was able to eat supper.  I lost right at 10 lbs last week.  I needed to lose some but did not plan to do it like that.  Our church had circular prayer for me Sunday night!  God is so Good!

'And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.'   Isaiah 65:24
