Hodgepodge Again...




1.  Did you do anything 'memorable' this past weekend?
As a matter of fact we did.  We were in Arkansas, on Saturday I had put together a family reunion on my dad's side. Descendants of Rhoda & John Elbert Beavers, which was my dad's parents.  We had 42 in attendance and a fun time was had by all.  Then on Monday we attended a Crawdad boil and Fish Fry at my daughters. Her and her hubby had a get together for his employees and their families.  It was a lot of fun.


2. Ronald Reagan is quoted as saying-

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same."  

Your thoughts? Do you somehow acknowledge and appreciate the freedoms you enjoy? Did your upbringing contribute to that sense of appreciation? If you're a parent, are there specific things you do to pass on this sense of responsibility and appreciation to your own children in regard to the freedoms they enjoy?

I think children learn by example.  So yes there are things you pass on.

3. Loudest noise you've ever heard?

Thunder hit a tree outside our house one time when I was a kid and it was very loud, it shook the windows.

4. What was the last thing you ate that might be considered 'junk food'? Did you enjoy it?

I consider ice cream junk food and yes I thoroughly enjoyed it.  On our way home today we stopped at Russell Stover's outlet store and had ice cream.

5. When was the last time you were somewhere the crowd felt 'packed in like sardines'?

Gee nothing comes to mind right now.

6. Are you organized when it comes to packing for a trip? Do you make a list weeks in advance or toss items in last minute? Are you a carry-on only sort of packer or do you need an entire suitcase for your shoes?
I am not really organized when it comes to packing, usually I pack the night before we leave.  And I do not have enough shoes to even fill a suitcase.

7. What was the last sporting event you attended in person? Did your team win? Did you care?

We went and watched Eden's team play softball.  Yes we won and of course I cared!  It was a close game!

This month has been kinda crazy. I have been working on things for the family reunion most of the month. And we made two trips to Arkansas this month, the first time was for a long weekend.  Then this last time was for 10 days.  I don't think I even turned on my computer this last week.

Hodgepodge 219...


It is Hodgepodge time...good to be back!  For some reason I just could not wrap my brain around A to Z and Hodgepodge last month. But now I am back!  We had a busy weekend in Arkansas, but more about that later.  We would love for you to join us! Just click on the button and grab the questions for yourself! 1. What's a phrase your mother often said to you? If you're a parent, is this something you now say to your own children?
'Yes, you have to finish everything on your plate, I did not give you too much.  You know there are starving kids in this world.'   I don't remember every making my child eat everything on her plate. I think that just sets a standard for bad eating habits, and weight issues.

2. What is a scent you associate with your mother or your childhood home?

The smell of bread baking.  Mom was always making bread.

3. What's an activity you remember always doing with your mother (or someone who was a mother figure in your life)?
It's sad but I really can't think of anything.

4. Flared jeans, maxi dresses, and jumpsuits are 70's fashion trends back this spring. Are you on board? Which trend would you be most inclined to try? For the men...flared corduroys, wide-collared shirts, and floral prints...what say you? 
I have a couple of maxi dresses, which as short as I am they never went out of style, they are all long!

5. May 6th is Teacher Appreciation Day and also Nurse Appreciation Day. Is there a nurse or teacher  you have especially appreciated along the way? Tell us why?
We had a nurse when Janice was little, her name was Brenda and she was awesome.  She had a heart of gold, and was so soft spoken.  Janice loved her.

6. If I came by your house, what would I find on your frig door?
A few magnets and a few pics of grand kids.

7. Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana made her royal entrance on Saturday, May 2nd. On a scale of 1-10, how much attention did you give to all the news coverage? 1=Who's Charlotte? 10=sat glued to the telly, cuppa in hand.
1 - Did not even realize they were having another till I saw the announcement about her name.

This is a busy month.  We just got home from a long weekend in Arkansas and will be headed back a week from Thursday.  They have Decoration where my mom and dad are buried on the 17th then on the 23rd I have pulled together a family picnic.  It is for Descendants of my Dad's parents: Rhoda Stroud and John Elbert Beavers.  Looking forward to it. I have received a great response from all the cousins.  Life is good!
