BOOK REVIEW: The Polygamist's Daughter

Have you ever wondered what living in a cult would be like?  Dive in to this great book and get a first hand look at Anna Le Baron’s life.  What was life like with forty-nine siblings?  This is Anna’s story, from sleeping on a foam mattress, to sleep being interrupted in the middle of the night by the FBI.  Life was not normal, or at least not normal by our standards. Ervil Lebaron was Anna’s father who was a well-known polygamist and murderer that was wanted by the FBI.  Their families were always on the run, never staying in one place for a long time. Anna never felt like she could measure up, she never felt loved or that she belonged.  Would she ever be able to break the cycle?  Could she find true love?  Grab this book, a box of tissue and find the answers to those questions and many more. Included at the end of this book is a section of Snapshots and Q & A with Anna, these are very interesting.

I enjoyed this book; I had a hard time putting it down.  I guess it intrigued me because it involves the LDS Mormon church.  I am proud to say the modern day church no longer believe in polygamy and for this I am grateful.  This book is well written and will keep your interest.  Don’t miss out!

I have received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

BOOK REVIEW: your Magnificent Chooser

‘God gave you your Chooser,
So Choosers are good.
He wants you to use it
The way Jesus would.’

John Ortberg has written a magnificent book about making choices.  Each child is faced with choices; the thing is which way will you choose.  It has wonderful rhymes that will intrigue a young child, as they are learning about the Holy Spirit and that they have help to make choices. The illustrations by Robert Dunn are beautiful.

I love this book.  I highly recommend it for young children. It’s a feel good book but also teaches young children about making good choices. I cannot wait to read it to my three-year-old grandson.

Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a complimentary copy of this book. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

On My Mind...

I have had a lot on my mind lately.  Unfortunately, I have to admit it has been death.  Sorry I don’t mean to be a downer but it does happen to each of us. We either are directly affected by death or affected from a distance.  And you have to admit it has no qualification on age, or even health for that matter.

The one year anniversary of my best friend, Jane’s passing, is next month; maybe that is what has brought these thoughts on.  Or perhaps it is losing a cousin, Bess, that had a heart of gold. Or maybe hearing and reading about a friend, Dan from high school’s walk with death when he lost his sweet wife, Rachel.  Or maybe hearing about an old buddy, Jimbo, who I spent a lot of time hanging out with in the early 80’s.  I hadn’t seen him in over 30 years but he had a heart attack this weekend and passed.

See it happens, no matter how we prepare it happens.  I think about all these people and wonder were they ready? Did they have their affairs in order? Had they ever spoken to their loved ones about their wishes?  Or did they go about day after day like they were going to live forever?  I have to say, Stan and I have talked to each other, and we know what the other wants.  And people it doesn’t make it happen any sooner, but it sure will make it easier when we cross that path.

Everyone always thinks I have plenty of time, that is not something I want to talk about and granted it’s not dinner table conversation.  But I urge you take some time and talk to your loved ones about your wishes, because age does not always have a factor in it, and tomorrow is not promised.

I also have to wonder were they ready, I mean really ready?  Had they made changes in their lives and given their heart to Jesus?  Will I get to see them again?  We never know when we will take our last breath - make sure you are ready!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”    John 3:16

BOOK REVIEW: Abducted by Janice Cantore

ABDUCTED

Carly Edwards is a member of the Las Playas Police Department. She is back in full force after solving the mayor’s murder and exposing corruption among the top brass in the city.

There is a lot going on in Carly’s life. She is trying to reconcile with her ex-husband Nick, but unfortunately he seems to be pulling away especially since he feels his recovery in dragging on.

Her partner Joe faces a disaster when his wife is taken to the hospital with an unexplained illness. Their 4-month old son, A.J. was also in the hospital.

Andrea, who is a nurse at the hospital and Carly’s roommate seems very distant and definitely has opposing beliefs.  The only thing that keeps Carly going is she believes in prayer and God’s helping hand.

As if things couldn’t get any worse A.J., Joe’s son was abducted from the hospital.  Carly jumps head first in finding A.J. She is faced with many so many trials; it puts her faith to the test.

Will they find A.J.? Will Carly and Nick work out their problems? How is the reporter Alex involved? Why is the FBI involved? Perhaps it is something bigger than Carly ever dreamed.

Pick up a copy of Abducted and find the answers to all of these questions and many more.

My thoughts:  I truly enjoyed this book; I had a hard time putting it down.  I wanted to see what was going to happen next.  Janice Cantore did a wonderful job developing all of the characters.  I felt like I was right there with them! I highly recommend this book, you will not be sorry!
