Random Dozen...

If you have never joined the Random Dozen, just hop over to Linda's blog and link up. The ladies are wonderful and it is a lot of fun!

1. How good are you at delaying gratification?
Usually pretty good, depending on the circumstances. If it is something I am excited about then that’s a different story.

2. Maybe a marshmallow wouldn't be too difficult a temptation for you. What food (or anything else) would be most tempting?
Marshmallows do not do much for me, I can take them or leave them, but now you put a Chicago Style Hot Dog, an Italian Beef or a good Polish Sausage in front of me and that would be a different story. I have not had one in years. I definitely could not turn one of those down.

3. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being saintly) how patient are you?
Probably about a seven or eight. I am a very patient person and have been told that many times.

4. Have you ever waited for something in life only to be disappointed upon realization of the goal/object/etc.?
Oh I am sure I have but I cannot think of one thing in particular. Whatever the outcome I usually try to make the best of the situation. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason! We do not always understand the reason, but we are not supposed to understand everything.

5. Are you a person who takes shortcuts?
Yes, if the outcome will be the same.

6. Which line is hardest to wait in?
Probably one for the bathroom, only because when you gotta go, you gotta go!

7. Did you wait to discover the gender of your unborn child until its birth?
Yes, did not want to know ahead of time. I wanted a little girl so bad; I did not want to be disappointed if it was a boy. So by the time I delivered, I had convinced myself I was having a boy. lol But she was a girl! Personally, I think the Lord knew I could not handle a little rowdy boy…lol.

8. Are you more patient with children or the elderly?
Probably with children, I just think back to when I had to take care of my mom. I was not always patient with her and I regret that now; however, she sure did know how to push my buttons.

9. Did you ever sneak a peek at a present?
I can't ever remember actually peeking at presents. I was always told if you peeked it would be sent back. Wait I do remember one time… I was about 3 or 4 and my brother Tom was around 12 or 13. He talked me into sneaking in and looking under the Christmas tree before mom and dad got up. It was still dark outside. And oh my gosh, he had a go-cart and I had a kitchen set, and a walking doll. And I started crying cause I just knew they were all going to be sent back. And I told him it was his fault. He talked me into it. He told me if I wouldn’t tell he would give me rides on the go-cart anytime I wanted. lol Mom always commented how nice he was being, giving his little sister rides all the time.

10. What is the longest you've ever waited for anything?
To hold my grandbaby Eden. She was 3 weeks old before any of us were able to hold her. She was taken to Children’s, 2 hours away, by helicopter when she was 4 or 5 hours old. It was a scary time.

11. Who has more patience, you or your significant other?
Definitely me, He has no patience. He has improved quite a bit in the last few years though, I have to give him credit.

12. Which of the following songs about waiting is your pick for the best? (OK, you may substitute another, if you like.)
Sorry I always have to be different. So I picked "In The Waiting" by FFH - You can listen to it here...

    Good answers!

  5. After I ate a Chicago dog, I had to have one almost every day. Now that you mention it, I don't think I could be very patient with my mother. She would know the buttons to push too.

  6. A good Chicago-style hotdog...yum!! You're makin me miss my childhood.

Love the story of you and your brother. My brother would've done the same type of thing. I love how those of us "peeked" as kids ended up regretting it. Funny.

    See you next week!

  8. I so relate to #8 - mother/daughter relationships can be so frustrating.

And as much as I get teased in my family about going to the bathroom so much, I can't believe I didn't put #6!!

  9. I grew up outside of Peoria, IL, but then moved to Downers Grove when I was 17 and spent 5 years there. I like to think of Chicago as home; love that city!

  10. Isn't Random Dozen fun?

I agree with your #4 (everything happens for a reason, so we should make the best of it) and I said the same thing on #6 (bathroom line)!

  11. Great song and your answer to # 9 cracked me up. I did not even think about bathroom lines, that is really the worst line when you need to go.

  12. Thanks for stopping over. Oh yes Italian sausage and Hot Dogs too!
I lived in Chicago for 38 years, now we are in California. I miss the food. Never thought about a line to go potty, good answer. I'm glad you waited to know the gender of your baby. I can just imagine how hard it was to wait to hold Eden. I'm waiting to have one but neither of my children have that in their plans now.

  13. Great answers Nel, you sound like a really patient person.
I would have died if I had to wait 3 weeks before holding my grandson.
We had to wait a week because he was also born premature, but did really well.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
