Going back in time...

I love springtime! Our lilac bush is showing off this year and of course I am enjoying every moment of it. There is something about the smell of blooming lilacs; they transport me back in time.
From the time I was in 3rd grade until after graduation we lived on Fullerton Avenue in Northlake, IL. It was a nice ranch style house on a corner lot, but the best thing about it was along a fence separating the side front yard from the back yard was a row of tall lilac bushes. During this time it was a favorite place in my little world. We had a picnic table out there in the shade where I spent many pleasant hours. I would sit in the shade reading a good book, or jotting down my thoughts in my journals. But the best of times was around 6 or 7 every evening when my daddy would get home from work.
He worked hard as a cement laborer on construction, but yet he always had time to sit on the picnic table every evening and enjoy the fragrant lilacs with me. He would always ask me how my day at school was, or if anything important happened? And then I in turn would ask him about his day. This was our special time, a time I will treasure forever and all it takes is the fragrant smell of a lilac bush to take me back!

Nothing like memories!

"But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavored the more abundantly to see your face with great desire."   1 Thessalonians 2:17

until next time...nel

  2. I adore the lilac flowers, the lilac color, and lilac fragrance.

Due to your skillful writing, I can well imagine the scene of your quality time with your father at the picnic table, near the lilac bush. Priceless moments...

  3. Love lilacs! I have fond memories of them as a child, as well.

I wanted to ask about your church searching for a pastor. I have been praying for you all and wondered if there has been any replacement.
