Hodgepodge 219...

It is Hodgepodge time...good to be back!  For some reason I just could not wrap my brain around A to Z and Hodgepodge last month. But now I am back!  We had a busy weekend in Arkansas, but more about that later.  We would love for you to join us! Just click on the button and grab the questions for yourself! Come on you know you want too!

1. What's a phrase your mother often said to you? If you're a parent, is this something you now say to your own children?
'Yes, you have to finish everything on your plate, I did not give you too much.  You know there are starving kids in this world.'   I don't remember every making my child eat everything on her plate. I think that just sets a standard for bad eating habits, and weight issues.

2. What is a scent you associate with your mother or your childhood home?

The smell of bread baking.  Mom was always making bread.

3. What's an activity you remember always doing with your mother (or someone who was a mother figure in your life)?
It's sad but I really can't think of anything.

4. Flared jeans, maxi dresses, and jumpsuits are 70's fashion trends back this spring. Are you on board? Which trend would you be most inclined to try? For the men...flared corduroys, wide-collared shirts, and floral prints...what say you?
I have a couple of maxi dresses, which as short as I am they never went out of style, they are all long!

5. May 6th is Teacher Appreciation Day and also Nurse Appreciation Day. Is there a nurse or teacher  you have especially appreciated along the way? Tell us why?
We had a nurse when Janice was little, her name was Brenda and she was awesome.  She had a heart of gold, and was so soft spoken.  Janice loved her.

6. If I came by your house, what would I find on your frig door?
A few magnets and a few pics of grand kids.

7. Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana made her royal entrance on Saturday, May 2nd. On a scale of 1-10, how much attention did you give to all the news coverage? 1=Who's Charlotte? 10=sat glued to the telly, cuppa in hand.
1 - Did not even realize they were having another till I saw the announcement about her name.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
This is a busy month.  We just got home from a long weekend in Arkansas and will be headed back a week from Thursday.  They have Decoration where my mom and dad are buried on the 17th then on the 23rd I have pulled together a family picnic.  It is for Descendants of my Dad's parents: Rhoda Stroud and John Elbert Beavers.  Looking forward to it. I have received a great response from all the cousins.  Life is good!

until next time...nel

  1. I don't tell our children they have to eat everything on their plates either. I never did understand how making someone overeat is going to help a starving child somewhere else.

  2. Bread baking is one of the best smells in all the world! We've been on the road a lot too. Enjoy all your travels, and Happy Mother's Day to you!

  3. A family picnic sounds like a good thing to me! That phrase your mom used about eating everything on your plate is familiar to me. I'm not sure my mom said it, but I heard it a lot...about the starving children wherever they happened to be focused on at the moment. I was always willing to have them box it up and send it to the starving children, but no one thought much of that idea.

  4. I know I sat at the kitchen table for hours because I wouldn't eat my veggies. Now I can't get enough of them! How awesome that your mom made bread. What a great memory to have.

  5. We never made our children eat everything either. One wouldn't eat much of anything, while another would eat hers and her brothers' if we'd have let her. Ha!
It sounds like you are staying pleasantly busy :)
