K
is for Kneeling
The
definition of kneeling in the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary is:
to bend the knee
fall or rest on the knees
Examples
of kneeling:
She was kneeling on the floor beside her child.
He was kneeling in front of the altar and praying.
I
automatically think of praying when I think of kneeling. We can pray from any position sitting,
standing, driving, but there is just something about kneeling in prayer. It tends to put us in an attitude of
humility. I tend to feel closer to God
when I am kneeling in prayer especially at an altar.
There was an incident years
ago when one of the boys in my youth group had went hunting and got lost in the
woods. The call went out that we all
needed to pray, his dad along with others were searching for him. My heart was so heavy, I felt like I needed
to go up to the church to pray. And I
did, kneeling at the altar I cried my eyes out to our Lord. After several minutes, I felt as if someone
put their arm on my shoulder and said, ‘he is safe, he has been found.’ I
quickly looked up to see who was there, but there was no one. I thanked the Lord for His assurance that he
had been found. About five minutes
later I was on my way home and I called his mom, to assure her he was
okay. She said, ‘Nel, they found him
about 10 minutes ago, I was just going to call you. Did someone call you?’ I
laughed and said ‘Praise The Lord! No,
there were no calls but the Man upstairs let me know at the same time he was
found.’
Isn’t
God amazing!
‘O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before
the LORD our maker.’ Psalm 95:6
‘Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went
into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he
kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before
his God, as he did aforetime.’ Daniel
6:10
‘For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee
shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account
of himself to God.’ Romans 14:11
