B is for Blasphemy...
B is for Blasphemy
According to the online dictionary blasphemy is:
1 a : the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God
b : the act of claiming the attributes of deity
2: irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable
Unfortunately, today this is practiced quite often. God’s name is thrown around and used frivolously or part of a curse. His name should be respected and only used in praise or worship. The way we use His name portrays our true feelings towards Him.
“Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Exodus 20: 7
“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” Matthew 12:31-32
When we deny that the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin we are committing blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. We are saved through the Holy Spirit’s work through Jesus Christ, but refusing to repent or acknowledge our sin is refusing God’s forgiveness. Those who refuse and turn their backs on God and have rejected all faith will not be forgiven.
until next time…nel

It's sad that blasphemy is all too common in society today...
ReplyDeleteYes, Nel, a thousand times over! What the world and the church needs is a heavy, holy dose of repentance. Oh that the Lord would pierce our hearts and quicken our steps for obedience.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, sister.
I agree with you, good luck with the challenge.
ReplyDeleteI guess that's why the OMG abbreviation that nearly everyone uses irks me so much.
